The 2025 MAMA Awards returned to Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium for its second chapter, delivering memorable performances and emotional moments amid a somber atmosphere following a recent local tragedy.
K-pop icon G-Dragon took home two major honors, winning Best Male Artist and Best Dance Performance – Male Solo. Receiving his award from actor Lee Soo-hyuk, G-Dragon shared heartfelt thanks, saying, “I dedicate this honor to my Big Bang members, my family, friends, and the team that always supports me. I hope that someday I can be the one handing awards to others.” The award ceremony also highlighted the pair’s well-known friendship, as the two exchanged warm gestures on stage.
Meanwhile, girl group aespa also emerged as double winners, taking home Best Choreography and Best Dance Performance – Female Group for their hit “Whiplash.” Member Giselle expressed empathy for those affected by the Hong Kong fire tragedy, stating, “We want to send our condolences to everyone going through difficult times. We’re honored to receive this award and will continue to give our best in future performances.” Ningning added gratitude toward fans and staff, emphasizing the collective effort behind their success.
The ceremony, hosted by actress Kim Hye-soo, featured performances by JO1, ID:IT, aespa, TXT, and dancers from the Mnet reality show World of Street Woman Fighter. In light of the recent Hong Kong fire disaster, organizers canceled the red carpet and adapted the stage show to focus on messages of comfort and hope, streaming the event live across multiple digital platforms, including Mnet Plus.
