The K-pop industry is entering its most competitive week of 2026 yet. Between legendary 2nd-generation icons returning to the stage and 4th-generation powerhouses pushing the boundaries of their "lore," the next seven days are set to be a historic moment for global fans.
The Legends Return: Tiffany Young & RAIN
The week kicks off with a dose of nostalgia and prestige. Tiffany Young is set to release “Summer’s Not Over” on May 8. This single is more than just a seasonal track; it officially commemorates the 10th anniversary of her solo debut. Released under Pacific Music Group (PMG), the mid-tempo pop song marks her first solo release in years and serves as a prelude to a full-length album coming later this year.
On May 11, the "King of K-pop" RAIN returns with the digital single “Feel It.” Known for his unmatched stage presence, RAIN's return adds a layer of veteran star power to a week already brimming with talent.
The Collaboration of the Decade: Anderson .Paak x DEAN
In a move that has set R&B and K-pop fans into a frenzy, DEAN and Anderson .Paak are reuniting for “AFTERTASTE” on May 8. This marks their first collaboration in over a decade, following their 2015 cult classic "Put My Hands On You." With DEAN’s mysterious "staircase" hiatus finally over, "AFTERTASTE" is expected to be a soul-drenched global hit.
The 4th Gen Heavyweights: NMIXX & aespa
Monday, May 11, is arguably the biggest day of the month.
- NMIXX will drop their 5th EP, "Heavy Serenade." Following the chart-topping success of Blue Valentine in late 2025, NMIXX is leaning into a "romantic yet heavy" concept. Fans have already been treated to B-sides like "Superior" and "Crescendo," but the title track is expected to showcase the group's "MIXX POP" evolution at its finest.
- aespa begins the rollout for their 2nd full album, LEMONADE, with the pre-release single "WDA (Whole Different Animal)." Teasers have revealed a dark, "Mutant" concept involving winged creatures and a return to the group’s high-fantasy roots. This single sets the stage for their massive "SYNK: COMPLaeXITY" world tour starting later this year.
The New Wave: YOUNITE, Flare U, and Solos
The week rounds out with a diverse array of sounds:
- YOUNITE continues their "INYUN" series with "INYUN Part.1" on May 12, focusing on their signature high-energy boy group pop.
- GOT7's Jinyoung offers a more intimate sound with “EVERLOVE” from his 2nd mini-album Said & Done on May 13.
- Flare U, the duo formed by Boys II Planet alums, makes their debut with "Way 2U" on May 13, promising to bring a fresh perspective to the rookie scene.
