SEOUL — Global K-pop powerhouse BTS made a landmark return to live performance with “BTS The Comeback Live | ARIRANG”, held on March 21 at the historic Gwanghwamun Square. The large-scale event celebrated the release of the group’s latest studio album, ARIRANG, marking their first major group comeback following military service hiatuses.
The open-air performance began at 8 PM KST and drew tens of thousands of fans, with approximately 40,000–42,000 attendees gathering across the designated viewing zones in central Seoul. The concert was simultaneously streamed worldwide through Netflix, extending the experience to audiences across nearly 190 countries.
Opening the show, leader Kim Nam-joon greeted fans, signaling the group’s long-awaited return. The performance began with the energetic track “Body to Body,” followed by live debuts of songs from the new album, including the title track “SWIM.” The album itself was released one day earlier on March 20, 2026, featuring 14 tracks and marking the group’s first studio release since completing mandatory service commitments.
The choice of venue carried symbolic weight. Gwanghwamun Square is widely regarded as one of Seoul’s most culturally significant public spaces, situated near historic landmarks including the gates of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Hosting the comeback in such a setting reinforced the group’s connection to Korean cultural heritage while presenting modern K-pop performance on a national stage.
Beyond its cultural significance, the comeback also demonstrated the group’s continued global influence. The hybrid model of live attendance combined with international streaming reflects evolving entertainment strategies designed to reach audiences far beyond physical venues. Early industry projections indicate strong commercial momentum surrounding the album’s launch, which recorded substantial early sales and fueled anticipation for the upcoming Arirang World Tour, scheduled to begin in April 2026.
With a highly visible launch event, a globally accessible broadcast, and renewed fan engagement following years of individual activities, BTS’s “ARIRANG” era signals a major new chapter in the group’s career—one that blends tradition, spectacle, and international reach.
