Police have carried out a search of singer Psy’s agency and vehicle amid allegations that he had prescription sleep medications picked up on his behalf without attending in-person consultations.
The Seoul Seodaemun Police Department reportedly conducted the search on December 4, targeting Psy’s agency, P Nation, and his personal vehicle in connection with suspected violations of medical laws. Authorities are investigating claims that Psy received controlled substances, including Xanax and Stilnox, through a proxy rather than directly.
P Nation confirmed their cooperation with the investigation, stating, “We fully complied with the authorities’ requests and will continue to follow all legal procedures as necessary.”
The investigation traces back to August, when Psy was officially registered as a suspect. According to police findings, from 2022 to the present, Psy allegedly received prescriptions for Xanax, commonly used to treat anxiety disorders, and Stilnox, prescribed for short-term insomnia in adults, without face-to-face consultations. Instead, a manager collected the medications on his behalf.
Authorities have also expanded the investigation to include the prescribing physician, identified only as Professor A from a major Seoul hospital, who reportedly denies wrongdoing, claiming the consultations were conducted remotely. Police have seized medical records from the hospital as part of their inquiry.
Under Korean law, psychotropic medications must generally be collected in person by the patient, with proxy pickups allowed only under limited circumstances. Violations can carry penalties of up to one year in prison or fines of up to 10 million KRW.
P Nation emphasized that Psy has been diagnosed with chronic insomnia and has been taking medications as prescribed under medical supervision. The agency clarified that no proxy prescriptions were issued, only instances of third-party collection, and reiterated their commitment to cooperating with ongoing police investigations.
The case continues to develop, with police reportedly reviewing digital evidence from Psy’s devices and considering the possibility of summoning the singer for further questioning.
