The 2025 MAMA Awards will go ahead as planned in Hong Kong despite the devastating apartment fire in the Tai Po district that claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds missing. Organizers announced that the ceremony will shift its focus from spectacle to compassion, dedicating the event to mourning and supporting the victims.
CJ ENM, the event’s host, stated that the production team has carefully reviewed all aspects of the show to ensure it delivers a message of comfort and hope. “We aim to create a program that emphasizes healing and solidarity rather than extravagant performances,” the company said, pledging to take full responsibility for the event and execute it with the utmost care.
In addition to honoring the victims, CJ ENM confirmed plans to contribute to relief efforts, allowing the audience and artists to share in remembrance. “We hope to provide a space where grief can be expressed, and support can be given through charitable donations,” the organizers said.
The tragic fire, which occurred on November 26 at the Wong Fuk Court apartment complex, resulted in over 50 confirmed deaths and nearly 300 people reported missing, sending shockwaves through the local community. In light of this, many public events and forums in Hong Kong were canceled, prompting intense discussions about whether the MAMA Awards should proceed.

Ultimately, the organizers decided to continue with the ceremony but with significant adjustments. Reports indicate that pyrotechnics and the traditional red-carpet festivities have been canceled, and moments of silence will be incorporated into the opening of the show. Portions of the event will also be broadcast as pre-recorded segments to maintain a respectful tone.
The two-day awards show, scheduled for November 28–29 at the Kai Tak Stadium, will feature a lineup of top K-pop artists, including Stray Kids, Enhypen, BabyMonster, TWS, ZeroBaseOne, AlphaDriveOne, Hearts2Hearts, and G-Dragon. Rehearsals had already been conducted prior to the fire, but the organizers emphasized that the final performances would reflect the somber mood following the tragedy.
“We believe in the power of music to heal and unite,” CJ ENM said. “Our hope is that the MAMA Awards can offer comfort and courage to those affected, while responsibly honoring the spirit of the community.”
